It’s time to once again celebrate the preservation of Pasadena’s historic and beautiful architecture such as the the City Hall, The Rose Bowl and the Colorado Street Bridge! On Saturday, July 12 Pasadena Heritage invites you to their famous Colorado Street Bridge Party. It starts at 6.00 pm and will continue until 11.30 pm. Bring your family as there will be activities for all ages!
The Colorado Street Bridge is a historic landmark that was built in 1913 with the intent to connect Pasadena to Los Angeles. During that time the Arroyo had a flowing river and construction work demanded that they descend from the Los Angeles side and ascend up the Pasadena side and vice versa. A difficult task to say the least! The bridge was engineered by John Alexander Lowe Waddell and at it’s time it was the first ever curvilinear bridge designed and also the tallest concrete bridge. Throughout the years there has been some talks about demolishing the bridge, but thanks to public protests and tireless work to preserve the bridge, we can all enjoy a stroll or a drive over it’s beautiful architecture.
At the Colorado Street Bridge Party there will be several food vendors to choose from including Big Mama’s Rib Shack, Cameron’s Sea Food, Memory Lane Cuisine and many more! There will also be live music performances on three stages from bands such as The Freelancers, Kids These Days and Mercy and the Merkettes.
For the younger audience there will be a variety of free activities and entertainment including face painting, cookie decorating, special music entertainment and police and fire vehicles.
PARKING: There will be limited free parking at the Legacy Partners Parking Lot on Walnut Street from 5.00 pm – 12.00 am. To enter the lot drive to the Walnut Street entrance between North Orange Grove Blvd. and North St. John Avenue. Please make sure to be out before midnight as the lot will close at 12.00 am!
Paid parking is available at the Elk’s Lodge lot for $10.00 (corner of Orange Grove Blvd. and Green St.). You can also pay for flat rate parking in Old Pasadena after 5 pm and from there you can take the ARTS Bus from Colorado Blvd to the Colorado Street Bridge.
