For a little over two weeks a year, hundreds of performing artists from around the world mingle together to perform all over the Hollywood area for an enormous theater festival extravaganza. The Hollywood Fringe festival, which takes place June 11-28th of this year, is an annual conglomeration of uncensored theatrical performances put on by the community. With over 250 shows ranging from comedies like to dramas, the choices are endless making it the perfect place to spend some time with your entire family.
Only twenty minutes away from Pasadena centered between Western and Melrose in the heart of Los Angeles, dozens of venues provide for a fresh and diverse way to see what the performers have to show. A quick drive to the city is all it takes to catch one of the dozens of plays making their world debut in this international festival. One of these premieres involves the San Marino Community Theater Company, a theater group representing local San Marino artists in the debut of an experimental historical piece titled “Tulelake”. San Marino High School drama students join forces with professionals to put on a thought provoking piece about the political and social unrest taking place in Tulelake for the last 150 years. Written entirely in Haiku over the course of thirteen years, “Tulelake” is sure to strike a chord in anyone who watches it. Tickets for this show and others during the festival range from free to $15 sold online, and start at various times depending on the show and venue. Most shows are performing multiple times throughout the two weeks, so do not worry too much if you miss a single performance!
With Make Music Festival coming once again to Pasadena and the Hollywood Fringe Festival going full blast, the performing arts around the area have never looked this good. Grab a friend, relative, or date and enjoy this extended world of live entertainment in June while you still have a chance. Summer has just begun so lets go out and start acting like it!
