Merry Christmas Greetings from Pasadena!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

December 25th is the day most Christians use to commemorate Christmas – the birth of Jesus Christ.

The exact date of his birth is unknown but many believe it’s more likely He was born in some other part of the year.

Here are some of my images this month of Pasadena commemorating Christmas…

La Posada (spanish for lodging) of Pasadena’s All Saints Church members prayed during their visits in the civic center.  I estimate 120 attended.  They were met back at church with tamales, pan dulce, and hot coffee.

La Posada is a Mexican Christmas tradition which remembers Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem and their hopeless search for lodging on the eve of the birth their child who would become known as Jesus Christ.  Not ever attending a La Posada, but wanting to get into a more authentic Christmas, rather than a generic holiday spirit, I responded to both an advertisement and friends invite.

Approximately 300-400 Pasadenan’s carried candles and sang Christmas carols during La Posada procession of Pasadena’s Lake Avenue Church (above).  They were welcomed back to church with Mexican food:  delicious, homemade warm Pozole, Tamales, Champurrado, Coffee, and Bunuelos!  Served by mostly non-hispanics and eaten by all, such as visitors from out of state: Texas, Minnesota, Oklahoma!
