Le Grande Orange Cafe is a stop on day 22 of 365 Things To Do In Pasadena™. It was time to get away from real estate and family and have a girl’s night out! Michelle Minch, top home stager in Pasadena and I, had dinner there followed by the South Pacific musical production at the Ahmanson Theater.
Le Grande Orange was a last minute decision. Michelle heard great things about the restaurant from her fitness trainer and called me in the morning with the suggestion. I was at this Pasadena restaurant before, but very briefly, for a cocktail hour and haven’t had a chance to taste their food. So… the decision was made.
We made reservations for a table for two, out on the patio, for 5:30. As we drove up, free valet parking was offered at the front of the cafe, but we chose to park in the Pasadena public parking next door, which most likely, we will not do again, since the parking lot was huge and had really tight turns and tiny spaces. Not worth the effort.
Arriving at the Le Grande Orange, we entered through the back and had an opportunity to walk through the Del Mar Metro Stop. I was surprised to see how beautiful this gold line station was and how modern!
The restaurant itself is quite large with exposed wood, high ceilings, Tex Mex colors and plenty of light coming in through over-sized windows and doors. We were led out to the patio which was quite lovely and hidden from the street. The patio had wicker furniture with distressed wood tables, huge pots, Mexican Tile accents and a fireplace which I’m sure would be a pleasure to sit by on winter evenings.
The menu was quite extensive. You have quite a choice beginning with salads and hamburgers, to a variety of fish, chicken and meats. We decided to order from their daily special menu which came with a starter, main dish and dessert. Take a look at the video below:
We both started with a Shrimp Ceviche starter followed by Ahi Tuna Taco Plate for me and White Fish for Michelle.
We finished our meal with dessert. I ordered coffee and Michelle had herbal tea. When Vanessa, our server, brought out the coffee, it was in a french press – a pleasant surprise! Michelle’s Jasmine Green tea was also served in a tea pot with fresh tea leaves – impressive!
Overall, both Michelle and I loved our dinner. An inviting atmosphere, great service, delicious food and great company. If you haven’t tried Le Grande Orange Cafe, definitely check it out.
