Big Draw LA is coming to San Marino’s Huntington Library! During October 2010, Los Angelenos are invited to try drawing in fun and imaginative ways and Pasadeneans are invited to join The Huntington to exhibit their artwork this coming Saturday, October 2nd from noon to 4 pm.
Visitors of all ages are encouraged to join in this fun activity featured on our 365 Things To Do In Pasadena. You will have the opportunity to participate in a communal art project that celebrates the act of drawing in a very special way!
Nature will provide you with the drafting materials for this wonderfully organic work of art. Using the Rose Garden lawn as a living canvas, you are encouraged to make your mark by placing, twigs, leaves, dried flowers, and other botanical materials on the grass and together we will create a giant collage!
Lines, patterns, colors, and textures will emerge and change with each addition. Time-lapse photography will record the creation of the image for the first three hours and its subsequent disappearance in the final hour.
As objects are gradually removed and lines “erased”, shapes and patterns will continue to shift until all that’s left is green.
Drawing is all around us, not just in the galleries, says Guy Fish, art education majnager at The Huntington. Drawing can break down barriers. It can make us see, think, invent, and act.
Big Draw LA is a month-long series coordinated by Ryman Arts that seeks to stimulate creativity and social engagement through innovative activities at museums and cultural organizations around Los Angeles. Inspired by a program founded in the United Kingdom in 2000, the Big Draw has now been embraced in cities across the US. Details about the local even can be found at The Big Draw site.
