Everyone needs a good laugh now and then and in Pasadena, The Ice House is the perfect place to get your dose. So Day 126 of 365 Things To Do In Pasadena takes us on a fun outing!
Since 1960, this little club has provided hours of song and laughter to over 4 million folks with comedy greats such as George Carlin, Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Jay Leno, George Lopez, Tim Allen and many others.
Shortly after opening, it quickly became “the place” in Pasadena for music and comedy. Over 50 live albums have been recorded at The Ice House which featured such notable musicians as Kenny Rodgers, Linda Ronstadt, The Association, Seals and Crofts, Stephen Bishop and hundreds more.
In 1978 an all comedy format was established. The Ice House now has a second showroom, The Annex that seats 75, as well as an outdoor deck/courtyard, and a VIP room in addition to the main room which seats 200. After 50 years this intimate theater continues to bring great comedians to its stage with a variety of acts and styles to appeal to anyone’s sense of humor. A full bar keeps your whistle wet with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (there is a two drink minimum) while the kitchen offers delicious munchies such as Chicken Strips, Pot Stickers, Grilled Shrimp, Salads, Fries, Sandwiches, full entrees and sweets. Prices are reasonable and there are specials throughout the week including: Two for One Wednesdays, $5 Thursdays and Late Night Friday when shows are only $10. There are also group rates and birthday specials and if you get on their mailing list you’re likely to get some free tickets to select shows.
The Ice House also offers Comedy Classes and, for those who have violated traffic law, a fun way to endure Traffic School.
The Ice House address is 24 N. Mentor just north of Colorado Blvd. It’s actually located “in an alley off a one-way street” called Market Alley. There is a 5 story parking garage across from 24 N. Mentor – parking is typically between $3 and $5.
