We are so lucky to live in a community with so many character homes. And, it is always a pleasure to take part in the annual craftsman weekend. This year, Pasadena Heritage will present its annual Craftsman Weekend on October 15-17, 2010. And, we wanted to ensure that our 365 Things To Do fans do not miss this opportunity.
Celebrating its 19th year this fall, Craftsman Weekend is the largest and most comprehensive salute to the Arts & Crafts Movement in the Western United States.
The Exposition will take place at the Pasadena Convention Center at Exhibition Hall B at 300 East Green Street in Pasadena. Each day will feature demonstrations and entry to the exhibit is $10 per person.
Opening reception and exposition preview is on Friday, October 15 5:30 – 8:00 pm. The evening will feature a special behind-the-scenes tour of the historic Civic Auditorium and an exclusive preview of the newly expanded exhibit hall.
Guests will have the first opportunity to visit the Craftsman Exposition and even purchase one-of-a-kind items. There will be over 50 returning exhibitors and more than 30 new exhibitors from across the U.S. participating in this year’s show and sale. The Silent Auction will be open for bids as well. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served between the tour and the grand opening of the Exposition. Price: $50 nonmember; $45 member
The famous Blacker House will be open on Saturday, October 16th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. Current owners have spent years restoring the Blacker House to its original splendor, commissioning the finest craftsmen. The reception will include tours of this National Register landmark with wine and hors d’oeuvres served on the elegant patio. You will also have the opportunity to participate in a limited silent auction with exclusive items only available during this Saturday night event. Tickets are limited, so please reserve early. Price: $145 nonmember; $110 member

The Craftsman Movement (also known as the American Arts & Crafts Movement) emerged in the early 20th Century in the United States as an outgrowth of the English Arts & Crafts Movement. Its hallmark is a philosophy of honest, simple design expressed in hand-made creations by skilled craftsmen. While the Movement flowered throughout the U.S., Pasadena became a particularly strong center for Craftsman style design including architecture, art, and ceramics. International recognition of Craftsman expression in Pasadena has been accorded to the work of architects Charles and Henry Greene, tilemaker Ernest Batchelder, artists Elmer and Marion Wachtel, and writer/photographer Helen Lukens Gaut, among others.
The Craftsman Weekend began in 1991 to provide a West Coast focus for interest in the Craftsman Movement and to highlight the unique and unparalleled Craftsman architecture and other resources available in Pasadena. Since its inception, it has grown to become one of two nationally prominent gatherings for those devoted to the Arts & Crafts Movement in the U.S.
