Pasadena Playhouse presents Dangerous Beauty – A Provocative New Musical:
Dangerous Beauty tells the tale of Veronica Franco, a celebrated courtesan/poet of 16th century Venice.
Forced to become a courtesan when her family fortune is lost, preventing her from marrying the man she loves, Veronica ultimately embraces the courtesan life because it affords her extraordinary education and access.
It is not long before she is the most influential woman in the cultural and political life of her beloved city. As Veronica’s star rises, however, Venice is ravaged by war, plague, and the Inquisition.
When Veronica finds herself on trial for witchcraft, she realizes that only her personal integrity can save her.

Discover The Playhouse:
The Pasadena Playhouse was established in 1917 and is the State Theatre of California. In recent years, the Playhouse has become instrumental in launching new works and landmark revivals for the American Theatre. The Playhouse has displayed a commitment to cultural and theatrical diversity, which is reflected in seasons featuring Tony and Pulitzer award-winning plays. Highlights since 2005 include the launch of the national tour of Purlie (with the Goodman Theatre); Looped, starring Valerie Harper, which opened on Broadway in February 2009 and garnered a 2010 Tony nomination; Sister Act, The Musical, which has been playing on the West End since June 2009 and will open on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on April 20, 2011; the world premiere of Ray Charles Live!, now titled Unchain My Heart, The Ray Charles Musical scheduled to open on Broadway in Spring 2011 and the world premiere of Baby It’s You!, which is also slated for Broadway.
