Sometimes we like to head out past the Pasadena City Limits and check out what a surrounding cities have to offer.
My best friend and I decided to head out on a little pizza adventure and ended up in the city of Los Feliz at a new hot spot known as Mother Dough.
Mother Dough dishes up Wood Fired – Neapolitan style pizzas. These pies from heaven bake at 850° F and are ready to eat in just 60 seconds.
We didn’t know what to expect when we ended up there. I have to say, we were pleasantly surprised when we walked in.
We were delightfully greeted by a friendly server and a quiet, very serene atmosphere.
Immediately your attention is drawn to the massive wood burning oven, and your eyes glance over the exposed brick and ornate chandelier-like fixture that rounds out the modest yet tasteful decor.
As you are seated, your server entertains you with the story of Mother Dough.
We learned that the cheese used on these pizzas is buffalo mozzarella which comes from water buffalo milk. The tomato sauce comes from San Marzano (in Campania) and the dough, well that’s the best part!
The dough for each pizza is made with a little piece of the dough from a previous batch know as the “Mother Dough”… some mother doughs have a years worth of ancestry to them!
The dough, the ingredients, the char flavor, it all adds in to create D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S pizza.
I’ve never bee able to sample authentic Neapolitan style pizza, but I can say that this was amazing!
You can choose from 5 different types of pizzas. They run $15-$19, we decided to try the Margherita and the sausage. I think the only true distinction between them was that one had bits of sausage… they were definitely welcomed and enjoyed!
Our server recommended that we each order our own, so we did. It was a good recommendation, there wasn’t a slice left over!
In our defense, there were other groups of ladies that each had their own pizzas too. 🙂
My only complaints are that 1) I would have liked a little more of each ingredient and 2) I would have enjoyed a little less of char.
But over all we had a great time, and if I were in the area I would stop in again.
