Day 79 of 365 Things To Do In Pasadena™ takes us to the ultimate movie theater experience: Gold Class Cinemas in Old Town, Pasadena.
Gold Class Cinemas is hidden on one of the side streets in Old Town Pasadena, adjacent to the Piccomolo Italian Ice Cream shop.
This is not your usual movie going experience… it is quite pricey, but in the end, folks say… extremely satisfying.
To start, you should reserve your seats at least a week in advance! This place fills up quickly! It is $29 for non-members and $22 for members (yikes!). I would definitely suggest becoming a member to save that extra $7 on their website (it’s free to sign up). To buy tickets online requires you to pay an additional $2 to the regular price/ticket.
Now… on to food and drinks! The $22 you paid only includes seeing the movie. Food and drinks area separate cost. This isn’t your normal popcorn and soda type of place. You can either order food/drinks in the lounge where you wait for the movie or in the movie theater itself. The lounge is a fancy place with comfy couches, tables, and on Saturday’s there is even a DJ that pumps up the good vibes! They offer appetizers, main courses, desserts, and alcoholic beverages ranging from $8 to $24.
I have heard a variety of reviews on the food and beverages… most say the food is okay, but not worth the ridiculous prices.
GOOD TIP: Become a member and come on Tuesdays to this Cinema for food and drinks at a DISCOUNTED price!
Moving on to the inside of the theater! So, once you enter the actual movie viewing room you should see small rows of huge lazy boy recliners (said to be RIDICULOUSLY COMFORTABLE).
When you sit down, you will notice a compartment hidden underneath your armrest for your belongings. You should have plenty of leg space, a table for food/drinks, and a button that will call one of the staff members. You can either order food and drinks during the movie, or even ask for a blanket and pillow! The staff is very accommodating and attentive.
For the ultimate pampering experience… you should definitely consider checking out Gold Class Cinemas in Pasadena! However, don’t forget Academy Cinema – our Day 17 – for the more thrifty movie going nights!
A tip from a fellow Yelp reviewer, “Just a tip for the fellas, bring a girl on a date here and you’ll be golden. Â Trust me!”
