Day 23 of 365 Things To Do In Pasadena™ takes us to Del Mar Metro Station, the home of the historic Santa Fe Train Depot.
Before:
Santa Fe rail line was once a main artery between Los Angeles and San Bernardino. This station was originally opened in 1925 and served the Pasadena travelers through January of 1994. At that time, the Pasadena station was abandoned and all through traffic was re-routed through Fullerton.*
After:
The Del Mar Station was part of a 3.4 acre, 77 million dollar project! The historic Santa Fe train depot is a central feature of the site. It has been rehabilitated to the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
The Del Mar Metro also includes some prime real estate and is also home to 347 apartment units known as the Archstone Del Mar Station Apartments. These are studio, one and two bedroom apartments available for lease from $1,500 per month.
A 1,200 parking multi-level garage serves the station with 600 parking spaces specifically dedicated to the Metro rail. Le Grande Orange Cafe is right next door, see day 22 of 365 and you can easily walk to Old Town Pasadena from the station.
