Discover Mid-Century living on Pasadena’s Millionaire’s Row

Discover Mid-Century living on Pasadena’s Millionaire’s Row

Pasadena Heritage is once again arranging a very special event for the public! This time the walking tour and lecture will encompass the early garden complexes on South Orange Grove Boulevard, also known as “Millionaire’s Row”. The area was once known for it’s majestic Victorian style mansions but like many of the Pasadena neighborhoods this too, experienced a shift in architectural style during the last century.

THE HISTORY OF MILLIONAIRE’S ROW
Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena, boasts some very grandiose and historically fascinating homes. Two of the buildings that we often hear about are the Gamble House and the Tournament House. The former is named after it’s original owner David Gabmle, son of the consumer producer and founder James Gamble of Procter & Gamble. If you drive down Orange Grove you will see the Craftsman masterpiece on the north part of the street. The Gamble HouCravens court pasadenase was built in 1908 by the renowned Greene & Greene brothers and today the home is a Historical Landmark open to the public. The second home is internationally renowned as it serves as the starting point for the Rose Bowl Parade. The Tournament House was the former home of William Wrigley Jr. and it was given to the City of Pasadena after Mrs. Wrigley’s death in 1958, with the condition that it be used as the Rose Parade Headquarters. In fact Orange Grove Boulevard was used as an alternate route in 1942, during wartime to avoid enemy attacks.
THE MID-CENTURY ARCHITECTURE TOUR

On May 16, starting at 10 am you will have the chance to experience the history behind the architectural shift and the rise of the Mid-Century homes on South Orange Grove Boulevard.
