Day 291 of 365 Things To Do Around Pasadena brings us to Fox’s. Fox’s is located at 2352 N. Lake Avenue in Altadena. Driving north on Lake Avenue, you are bound to pass by this small house (cottage) just North of Medocino Avenue. Fox’s Restaurant has been in Altadena for many years and is considered a landmark. The way to notice Fox’s is the crowd outside waiting to be seated during lunch and weekends for their great hearty meals. The restaurant opened its door in 1955 (before my time). It’s family owned and operated.
Step into the diner and you’ll see the things have not changed. Rather, you’ll feel that you have been taken back a number of years. From the red chairs and black tables, to the checkered curtains, it’s all nostalgic.
The service is good, wait staff is courteous, and keeps your coffee filled. The menu offers a number of breakfast combos, omelets, pancakes and side dishes. The lunch menu lists tasty burgers and sandwiches. The blueberry muffins are made from scratch… so you must order them instead of toast. The potatoes are excellent -cottage potatoes with a bit of onion and green pepper (yum, yum).
Looking around the restaurant, you will see many Altadena locals & others likely to have a breakfast before heading to the trails. Some are busy chatting away enjoying catching up with one another, as others are having fun chomping down their meal with their whole family. It’s also a great place to come back for lunch after the early morning hike.
If you are looking for IHOP or Denny’s type feel, you won’t find it at Fox’s. It’s a friendly diner in a little town which we all wish still existed in every neighborhood. There are no bells or whistles, but Fox’s definitely deserves them.
Open 7Am – 2PM, Tuesday through Sunday. Closed on Monday. There is limited parking, but space can be easily found on the street. Go visit Fox’s and get yourself the wonderful blueberry muffin, eggs and pancakes and let me know what you think!
