How does seven blocks of entertainment, food, family activities and vendors for two days, sound like? If you’re tempted well….just head 7 miles south of Pasadena to the city of Monterey Park this weekend, Jan 28 and 29, as they celebrate the Lunar New Year and arrival of the Year of the Rooster!
The Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, is the most important holiday in Chinese culture. It’s a 15-day (or in modern times, 5-day) festival for families to be together.
So bring your loved ones and celebrate the festivities which will feature over 50 food booths serving various delicacies such as egg waffles, Taiwanese sausage, noodles and BBQ corn on the cob to mention a few. About 300 vendors will be offering unique gifts and specialty items. Kids and adults can also enjoy the amusement rides and lots of live entertainment.
The traditional New Year lion and dragon dancers along with firecrackers will kick-off the festival Saturday morning. Various types of entertainment will be featured on both days. A large carnival fun zone will be featured in parking lots at the corner of Garvey and Lincoln Avenues.
Past Lunar New Year events in Monterey Park have drawn as many as 100,000 visitors coming from all over the Southern California area. Start making plans to attend a full weekend of fun, entertainment, shopping and dining!
The event is presented by the City of Monterey Park, the Monterey Park Downtown Business Improvement District Advisory Committee, and World Journal LA, LLC.
Have fun out there!
