Visiting Pasadena during the holidays? Or, you’re a local looking for a fun thing to do? Either way, a great way to start the holiday season is to attend the “Lighting Of The Holiday Tree” ceremony at One Colorado. It is definitely one of the 365 Things To Do In Pasadena® and the place to be!
Stop by One Colorado on Friday, November 25th at 6 pm and see “Nutty”, the eight swingsters headline the free concert immediately after the tree lighting cermeony.
Nutty ‘re-interprets’ modern standards with classic jazz, offering up tasty recipes for a classic pop/rock menu. Add to that a swanky, retro Rat Pack presence and some engaging funny business and you’ve got a swingin’ good time.
The talented musicians that make up the mix of “Nutty” include singer Sonny Moon (Joel Hile), Guy Wonder (Mike Werner) on bass, Dan Spector on piano, Phil Moore on tenor/alto saxes and flute, Mike Reznick on bari sax and flute, trumpeter Bijon Watson, drummer Matt Johnson and percussionist Erik Leckrone.
Nutty will swing some Christmas songs along with their most requested tunes including Purple Panther – The “Pink Panther” sashays through “Purple Haze” in this cosmic, colorful collaboration between Hendrix and Mancini. Living In The Impossible Past – Jethro Tull’s tune is seamlessly layered over Lalo Schifrin’s “Mission Impossible” theme as though they were one and the same soundtrack. Bohemian Blitz – It’s mayhem and “Bohemia After Dark”; Cannonball Adderly and troupe wander into Sweet’s “Ballroom Blitz”, and Rumba With The Devil/Jamie’s Cha-Cha – A favorite from the Latin side of Nutty is this medley from the first Van Halen LP.
Nutty is currently finishing their second album.
The evening will include greetings from the Rose Queen & her Royal Court and an appearance by the big man himself, Santa. And, if you bring a new, unwrapped toy for the annual Charles Cherniss Tournament of Toys, you will receive a free photo with Santa (6:30pm – 9:00pm, November 25 only).
Location:
One Colorado (Old Town), Pasadena
(in the courtyard, adjacent to Crate & Barrel, north of Colorado, between Fair Oaks Ave and De Lacy Ave)
And, nibble on free cookies and sip on free hot cocoa while you enjoy the evening’s festivities!
