Yesterday was a great day! After strolling on the Colorado Street Bridge and taking in the beauty of Pasadena, I ran into a friend of mine, Mike from Cafe Pasadena, but where else, but his fave hangout the new Euro Pane across from the Paseo. As I was trying to decide where to have dinner, Mike recommended Plate 38 on the East side of Pasadena. The owner, Robert Humphrey, Mike said used to be the head chef at Siena restaurant which was one of his favorite Italian places.
Since I’ve been meaning to stop by Plate 38 for awhile now, it was a perfect choice. After an unfortunate fire, soon after Plate 38’s grand opening, this restaurant opened its doors again late last year.
The atmosphere is casual and relaxing. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable, but the food… oh man… the food is outstanding! I was blown away, by the presentation AND taste!
We started out with their roasted beet salad which showcased baby beets of different colors, blood oranges and pine nuts and was delicate enough to hit the spot. The kids shared Sexy Mac & Cheese and a Truffle Burger with caramelized onions – both were a hit. And, for the main course, my husband and I shared Duck Confit with butternut squash and cherry balsamic reduction. There were plenty of specials to choose from including Grilled Sword fish, Filet Mignon and Filet Stroganoff. The specials menu is updated weekly. We finished this delectable meal with a home made berry cobbler with dark chocolate ice cream.
I was very impressed with the quality of the food and will be coming back often. I highly recommend that you check out Plate 38 on your next dinner outing. Let me know what you think.
