This just in, the Arcadia City Council unanimously approved a new weekly Street Fair to take place in Downtown Arcadia. The Fair, which was previously located in Monrovia for the past 23 years, will take place on First Avenue from Huntington Drive north past Wheeler Avenue to near Santa Clara Street by the 24 Hour Fitness, with a whole range of foods and merchandise available to be purchased. To commemorate the start of this new weekly series, (and because it will be the day before the 4th of July), July 3rd will be a special combination of Street Fair and Patriotic Festival.
The Patriotic Festival will be staged by the Downtown Arcadia Improvement Association and will be the first event held at the new Arcadia Transit Plaza (located on Santa Clara Street & First Avenue). Matt McSweeny, owner of Matt Denny’s Ale House & Restaurant, booked his Tuesday night band J.C. Hyke as well as a local band Totally Hip Replacements to provide fun patriotic music for the plaza. Also performing is the First Avenue Middle School Student Rock Band.
Now for the yummy information, the Fair itself will feature at least 43 vendors in the Farmer’s Market alone! That is a huge amount of fresh fruit and vegetables just waiting for you! If you want some cooked food don’t worry, there will also be 75-80 additional food, craft and merchandise vendors that include all kinds of delicious stuff. From the popular Mister Potato truck, to classics like kettle corn and roasted nuts, it will be hard to find something that does not interest you! Aside from food there will be plenty of entertainment for the family including a petting zoo, pony rides, bouncey houses, a rock-climbing wall, balloon artists, face painting, and caricatures. In honor of the Patriotic Festival, L.A.’s favorite Hawaiian shave ice truck, A ROCKin Ice, will be offering red, white and blue shaved ice to get you in the spirit, along with ice cream cookie sandwiches and refreshing slushy lemonades.
