Whenever I’m on the road looking at all the beautiful houses in Pasadena, my go-to snack has to be a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. My entire life I was told there is nothing as good as a classic PB & J, what if I told you there just might be something better. Almond butter is one of those nut butters you never knew you needed in your life, till you try your first bite. I couldn’t think of a better vendor to start our Whats Fresh in Pasadena? (A Guide to Pasadena Farmers Markets) guide than Yemetz Family Farm & Orchards, a family run orchard specializing in organic Yemetz almonds which they sell by the pound or blended into delicious creamy butter.
We stock up on their nut butters at our house and have no less than 4 jars at any point in time. You can easily keep them in your cupboard until ready to use and they store very well in the refrigerator after opening. All you have to do is swirl the oil that comes out on top around and you have the creamy goodness! Yum…
365 Things To Do In Pasadena: Whats your business called? What produce are you selling right now?
Well… we only sell Yemetz Almonds. The Yemetz farm is up there a couple hours west of Yosemite. Everything here is organic, unpasteurized, raw, and we’re triple certified.
365 Things To Do In Pasadena: How did you get started?
I’m a friend of the owners. I’m not the owner. (Yemetz) had this farm in the family since 1980, he’s been doing it ever since. We’ve been in the Hollywood Market for about 9 years. Taken from the Yemetz Family Farms & Orchards website: “George Yemetz has worked the family orchards since 1980. He planted his own orchard in 1996 and is responsible for all day to day farming operations and with the help of his wife, Elizabeth, sales and marketing.”

365 Things To Do In Pasadena: How quickly do you run out of stock on any average day?
I never run out. I run out occasionally on one item, like a certain butter but I usually stock up because I know people come out here and I don’t want to disappoint them so I bring plenty of stock.
365 Things To Do In Pasadena: Whats your favorite way of using the almond butter? An almond butter and jelly sandwich?
You know what I don’t even recommend the butter and jelly. You know you can put it on any type of fruit, banana, apple, strawberries. You can use it like chocolate, you can put it in your smoothies. You can eat it out of the jar, which I do a lot.
365 Things To Do In Pasadena: Thank you so much for your time. Is there anything else people should know about your stall?
Next Saturday, 3/30, will be the last time we will be at the Pasadena Farmers Market for a while, so make sure to swing by if you want to get your almond fix if you don’t want to drive all the way out to Hollywood or Erewhon/Lassens.
